Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor has been drafted into the England squad now that another striker, Darren Bent of Spurs, has been ruled out by injury. The Three Lions are seriously jinxed.

Gabriel Agbonlahor has been drafted into the England squad to boost the side’s ailing attack after Darren Bent was ruled out earlier today.

The Aston Villa striker was left out of the under 21 squad last week after being considered an injury doubt and has scored only once in his past 17 games for Villa and not at all since he last played for England.

However Fabio Capello has been left with little choice after injuries to Bent, Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole have reduced his striking options. The England manager was unwilling to call up Michael Owen and will not offer Kevin Davies a place in the side until he has seen the player perform.

Capello has also confirmed that Peter Crouch will start for England against Ukraine. The striker has shaken off a minor injury and should line up alongside Wayne Rooney.
