Arsenal have revived their interest in Everton central-defender Phil Jagielka.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of the England international and failed in his attempts to sign him last summer.

But the Frenchman is preparing another move to land the 28-year-old after the Gunners contacted the Goodison Park club about his availability.

An Everton source told Sportsmail: ‘We have had major interest in Jagielka ahead of the next transfer window. But it will take a huge offer for the club to let him leave.’ Wenger saw numerous bids – the biggest being £15million – rejected by the Toffees last summer.

But the Gunners are primed to test David Moyes’ resolve to keep Jagielka again.

However, Arsene Wenger – who is also keen on Jagielka’s team-mate Leighton Baines – will have to improve on last year’s offers to lure the defender away from Merseyside.

Jagielka signed a new four-year contract in March and Moyes has earmarked him as a future skipper.
