Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed they would be interested in bringing unsettled Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin back to the club.

Arsenal signed the Russian international for £15m in January 2009 but despite a promising start, he has struggled for consistency this season.

And if he is allowed to leave the Emirates in the summer, a return to his former side could on the cards.

‘Zenit’s doors are always open for Andrey,’ the club’s sporting director Igor Korneev told Talksport.

‘If his situation at Arsenal does not improve and he’s not comfortable in London, we can study this issue in time for next season.’

Earlier this month, Sportsmail revealed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will offload a number of his flops this summer, including Arshavin.

Gael Clichy, whose contract expires next year, and misfiring striker Nicklas Bendtner will be among the high-profile casualties of Arsenal’s sixth consecutive trophyless season

Offers will also be considered for Emmanuel Eboue, Denilson, Tomas Rosicky and Manuel Almunia.
