cristian-manea-viitorul-constantaChelsea have struck a £2.3m deal to sign Romania starlet Cristian Manea from Viitorul Constanta in January.

According to Dolce Sport, the Blues have won the race for the highly-rated defender, who has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs.

Manea, 17, will sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge and is expected to be immediately loaned out to either Dutch side Vitesse or Spanish oufit Mallorca.

The deal to sign right-back Manea will continue manager Jose Mourinho’s overhaul of his Chelsea squad.

During the summer, Mourinho made his desire to build a younger squad capable of dominating on both domestic and European fronts for the next 10 years clear.

Veterans Frank Lampard, 36, and Ashley Cole, 33, left the club during the close season, while Diego Costa, 25, Cesc Fabregas, 27, and Loic Remy, 27, were among the new arrivals.

Manea would certainly fit the bill and has already shown promising signs of developing into a top-class defender.

He has already been capped by Romania – becoming the youngest player ever capped by the senior team – having impressed in his opening five club matches for Viitorul.
