Everton have taken USA striker Edson Buddle on trial, according to the 30-year-old’s agent.

The former LA Galaxy player joins up with fellow Americans Landon Donovan and Tim Howard on Merseyside as he tries to secure a move from German second division side Ingolstadt.

Buddle had a similar trial at West Ham last month and a year ago attracted interest from Stoke, Wolves, Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday.

Buddle formed an impressive partnership with Donovan at the Home Depot Center, culminating in 19 goals in 30 games in 2010 and a call-up to the World Cup.

He is Ingolstadt’s top scorer this season, with six in 17 league appearances, but the club are languishing at the wrong end of the table.

His agent, Richard Motzkin, said on Twitter: ‘For those asking, my client (Edson Buddle) will be on trial this week at Everton.’
