Tottenham shot stopper Heurelho Gomes could be given the chance to resurrect his career at Leeds, with the Championship outfit opening talks over a prospective loan deal.

Gomes, who turned 33 last week, has seen first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane limited as he is currently the club’s third choice. With a spot in Brazil’s World Cup squad at stake, Gomes is thought to be keen to get some regular first-team football under his belt.

Reports indicate Leeds held a round of talks with Stoke City keeper Jack Butland with a view to securing a loan deal.

It is thought Brian McDermott has made Gomes his top target and hopes to have a deal struck before Leeds tackle Middlesbrough on Saturday.Gomes has been capped 11 times for the Samba Boys and spent the second half of last season at Hoffenheim.

He joined Tottenham from PSV for £7.8 million in 2008.
