Liverpool are in talks to sign young Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey, despite the fact that he is a Manchester United supporter.

The 18-year-old, currently of Swedish side Djurgarden IF, is attracting huge interest across Europe after a superb season in the Allsvenskan in which he helped his side finish in seventh spot.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring Amartey, a keen United supporter, to Anfield, something which the young star has confirmed.
“I have been in contact with the club,” he told Nyheter24.

“It’s a good club that I could play in.”

StarSport confirmed last week that Liverpool and a number of Europe’s top clubs were tracking the progress of Amartey.

Despite adding Aly Cissokho, Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Tiago Ilori to his defensive options during the summer, Rodgers is desperate not to miss out on the young star.

Amartey’s agent, Patrick Dark, refused to comment last week whether Liverpool were talking to his client.

However Amartey revelation is likely to increase Liverpool’s efforts to secure him in the January transfer window and beat off the competition for his signature.
