Liverpool have enquired about Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren.
Brendan Rodgers sees the Croatian as the man to shore up his leaky defence. The Kop want fellow Saints star Adam Lallana too – but any deal for Lovren will be done separately.
Lovren is seen as the perfect replacement for defender Daniel Agger, who is set to leave.
The 24-year-old, who signed for Southampton for £8.5m last year, is now valued at around £15m.Rodgers is understood to have been particularly disappointed with Agger’s concentration levels and lack of leadership this season, despite appointing him vice-captain.
The Northern Irishman also had similar question marks over Martin Skrtel but the Slovakian responded to the challenge.
Agger, though, has struggled to convince and the club are open to offers for the 29-year-old Denmark international.
