Zak-GilsenanLiverpool have beaten off their Premier League rivals to sign an Irish kid star dubbed ‘the next Lionel Messi’.

Zak Gilsenan, who is just 11, has been schooled at the same La Masia academy as Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

He was born in Ireland, grew up in Australia and has spent the last two years at Barcelona honing his incredible talent.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea were among a load of top clubs who wanted the youngster when it emerged he’d become available following the family’s decision to move to England.

But the Gilsenan clan decided Liverpool was where Zak should end up and he is poised to join their academy.

The family had planned to leave Australia, where he was playing for Perth Glory, to move to England two years ago so Zak could link up with Tottenham.

But he caught the eye of one of Barcelona’s former players down under and the Spanish giants gatecrashed Spurs’ move.

Gilsenan bagged seven goals in a trial game in Spain when he was nine to earn himself the nickname of ‘the Irish Messi’.
