Manchester United could launch a surprise move for Porto midfielder Lucho Gonzalez in January.

David Moyes took in Porto’s Champions League game at Atletico Madrid earlier this week where he was also casting his eye over Koke.United are in the chase it seems for Fredy Guarin, with Inter Milan prepared to use him as a bargaining tool to prise Javier Hernandez away from Old Trafford.

Reports suggest Moyes was also keeping a watching brief on the 33-year-old Gonzalez, whom he tried to sign twice when he managed Everton.

With Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini injured, Moyes is desperate to add some creativity that has largely been missing from their play this season. And Gonzalez with his experience could act as a necessary stop gap, and help alleviate concerns over whether or not they will finish in the top four.

Gonzalez is out of contract with Porto next summer.
