goncalo-guedes-benfica1Benfica winger Goncalo Guedes is on the radar of seven elite clubs across Europe as the race hots up to sign the Portuguese star with a hefty £45million value.

Manchester United scouts checked him out in action last week and Chelsea have watched Guedes, 19, five times. The talented teenager has also been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City as well as Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Guedes, tipped as the next Cristiano Ronaldo but who hates the comparison, has been on Benfica’s books since he was an eight-year-old schoolboy.

He made a rapid rise through the ranks and, in November, became the first 18-year-old since Ronaldo in 2003 to be called up to Portugal’s full squad, making his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Russia in Krasnodar.

Guedes was also the youngest ever Portuguese goalscorer in the Champions League when he netted a memorable winner in an away game at Atletico Madrid two months earlier. The only stumbling block for his many admirers is that Guedes comes with a whopping buy-out clause after signing a new contract until 2021.

It has been set at £45m but that won’t stop the huge interest growing in the wide man who is getting an impressive reputation for his blistering pace, great dribbling techniques and eye for a goal.
