Fernando Torres is set to be offered a £45million way out of his Chelsea nightmare.

Megabucks Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, who have former Stamford Bridge boss Guus Hiddink in charge, are weighing up the offer that would also help Blues’ rebuilding plans.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is understood to believe Torres will still come good, but if Chelsea miss out on the minimum £30m of Champions League income they have no chance of being able to fund the planned revamp and meet UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Anzhi, who pay Samuel Eto’o a record £300,000 a week, are ready to test Chelsea’s resolve to keep hold of Torres, who has scored just seven goals in 15 months since his British record £50m move from Liverpool.

The Russian side’s initial approaches for the Spaniard were knocked back even before a formal bid was made when it was made clear that a proprosed £35m offer would be rejected out of hand.

But Anzhi are now ready to increase that amount by £10m if Chelsea are interested in doing business.

Chelsea, who are braced for Didier Drogba to go for nothing at the end of the season, have eyed four big-name striker options for next season.

The Napoli pairing of Uruguayan Edinson Cavani and Argentina’s Ezequiel Lavezzi will cost at least £50m to land, while Abramovich would be unlikely to get much change out of £100m should Madrid show any desire to sell Cristiano Ronaldo or another Argentine, Gonzalo Higuain.

Torres is not alone in attracting attention with Hiddink’s Stamford Bridge successor Carlo Ancelotti ready to make a £12m bid to be reunited with England left-back Ashley Cole at Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti also remains hopeful of taking Frank Lampard across the Channel as PSG, owned by the Qatari royal family, want to sign some seasoned Champions League performers to boost their campaign next season.

In addition Real Madrid, led by former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, are keen to entice Portuguese midfielder Raul Meireles to the Bernabeu in a £10m move.
