Sven Goran Eriksson continues to court former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves who is currently without a club.

The midfielder, who shone under the Swede on international duty, was did not have his contract renewed at Old Trafford after four injury-hit years following his £20million move from Bayern Munich.

Eriksson went public with his desire to bring Hargreaves to the King Power Stadium earlier this summer, but admitted frustration at having failed to speak to Hargreaves directly.

However, the former England boss has revealed he finally nabbed of the minute of the 30-year-old’s time in early Auguest and left the door open for him should he opt to drop down to the Championship.

‘I finally spoke to him one week ago and he knows if he wants to come he is more than welcome,’ Eriksson, who has already signed Michael Johnson and Gelson Fernandes on loan, said.

‘We have not made an offer to him. We have taken in Johnson and Fernandes, so it is not a priority position.’

He added in the Leicester Mercury: ‘Owen is a fantastic player if he is fit. If he wants to come he will phone me for sure.’

Along with Leicester, West Bromwich Albion are monitoring developments, while MLS side the Vancouver White Caps are also keeping tabs on the situation as they look to bring Hargreaves back to the country in which he was born.
