Home » Latest, Transfers » Reports suggest United has asked Chelsea about selling Juan Mata

ESPN claims they have spoken to sources at both clubs, who have confirmed there has been contact between them over the availability of Mata.

Rumours have persisted since the Special One rejoined the Blue that he wasn’t keen on the 25-year-old, while the club now look certain to sign Willian, yet another creative midfielder.

But Mourinho moved to quell speculation surrounding Mata today, telling the press he wanted to keep the player of the year for the past two seasons, at Chelsea.

He said: “No, (it is) speculation.

“He’s a player we all like, he’s a player we all want to keep and we want more quality in the team, we don’t want less quality.

“We want to add quality. Juan is not a player we want to lose.”

United and Chelsea are both currently focused on the transfer saga surrounding Wayne Rooney, with Mourinho confirming they’d wait till after their upcoming match before making another bid.

“Everybody in the club, in the board, they agree with me. They share that opinion,” he said earlier this month.

“I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where we’re going to be quiet.”
