Tottenham are considering a cut-price £1.5million move to bring Dimitar Berbatov back to White Hart Lane.

Berbatov’s contract with Fulham expires at the end of the season, with his agent revealing the striker wants to leave in January.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 32-year-old after suffering injuries to frontmen Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott.

But Spurs chief Daniel Levy is ready to beat their North London rivals to Berbatov, to in order re-stock their own striking options.

Jermain Defoe will head to MLS outfit Toronto in March and Levy wants to ensure Spurs are not left short up front.

However, boss Tim Sherwood is reluctant to disrupt Emmanuel Adebayor – who is enjoying a mid-season revival following Andre Villas-Boas’ sacking.

“Everyone knows Berba,” Sherwood said. “He is proven in this division.

“He is a Fulham player and I am not sure what they are thinking about that. But we have options to take us through to the end of the season.”
