Tottenham are the latest club eyeing Everton teenage midfielder Ross Barkley.

They join Manchester United and Chelsea on the trail of a player who has already represented England at Under-16, 17, 19 and 21 level.

And it would be no surprise if Manchester City showed their hand, too and joined the fight for him.

But Everton boss David Moyes insists he won’t sell one of the most-coveted players in the country.

Moyes doesn’t want to see history repeat itself with Barkley, 17, doing what Wayne Rooney did and joining United at a similar age.

Everton, therefore, are expected to award Barkley (above) a new £20,000-a-week contract on his 18th birthday in December.

But that won’t deter interest from United, Chelsea and Spurs, in a player who was one of the stars of England’s Under-17s European Championship-winning team last year.

Incredibly, Barkley suffered a triple leg break not long after that, playing for England Under-19s when he was in an accidental collision with team-mate and Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom.

But Barkley was still able to start this season as a first-team player at Goodison.

Everton are braced for renewed interest in their starlet in the January transfer window.

And if they fight off that, when there could be offers of between £15m and £20m, they know the predators will be back in the summer.

But Moyes is adamant he doesn’t want to see another Everton discovery playing his best football for another club.
