Tottenham have joined the race for Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Spurs are monitoring the Sporting Lisbon star with a view to making a s10million summer bid, but face stiff competition from Inter Milan.

Liverpool have been longterm admirers of the forward, 23, with Newcastle also having failed to sign him in the past. But Spurs want to get a deal done for Van Wolfswinkel who joined Sporting from Utrecht last summer, but insists he is not ready to quit Portugal.

Tottenham are unlikely to meet the wage demands of onloan Manchester City hitman Emmanuel Adebayor and have almost abandoned hope of securing him permanently.

That means Spurs will be looking for at least two senior frontmen this summer, with Louis Saha only on a short-term deal and Jermain Defoe unsettled because of his lack of regular first-team football.

The uncertainty over boss Harry Redknapp’s continued links with the vacant England manager’s job has not stopped Spurs lining up a host of potential summer recruits.

Tottenham have checked on Athletic Bilbao’s ex-Liverpool centre-half Mikel San Jose, 22, who won the U21 European Championship with Spain last year. But Milan are also keen on the s20m-rated defender, whose deal expires in 2015.

Exciting Spurs also like AZ Alkmaar’s exciting midfielder Adam Maher, 18, who was part of the Dutch squad which visited Wembley in February and is interesting Barcelona too. Real Madrid’s French defensive midfielder Lassana Diarra, 27, is also back on the Tottenham radar. He was with Redknapp at Portsmouth, but Spurs failed with a bid last summer.
