Tottenham are set to battle Manchester United and Chelsea for Southampton star Luke Shaw should they fail to prise Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid.

Andre Villas-Boas kept a tab on Coentrao in the summer but failed to lure him away from the Bernebeu.United were also linked to the Portuguese defender in the summer as well as Everton’s Leighton Baines but thwarted on both fronts.

And according to reports, Spurs will turn to Shaw if a deal for Coentrao can’t be reached in January.

It is thought that Southampton aren’t willing to listen to offers below £10million for the 18-year-old.

Furthermore, Shaw is more the type of player preferred by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs have done business in the past with Southampton, having spent £10m on Gareth Bale to bring him to White Hart Lane.
