Tim-Cahill-NewYorkRedBullsFormer Everton star Tim Cahill may have paved the way for a Goodison Park return after parting ways with the New York Red Bulls.

The MLS team announced earlier today that the Australian midfielder will not return for the upcoming season.

The Ex-Toffee legend signed with New York as a designated player in July 2012, and he played a major role the following season in helping the Red Bulls win the Supporter’s Shield, scoring seven of his 11 goals with two assists in the final 11 games.

The announcement has sparked talk that the player could be on his way back to Merseyside, where he became a firm favourite.

Cahill is the Socceroos’ all-time leading scorer with 39 goals in 82 appearances and helped his national team secure a maiden Asian Cup title with a 2-1 extra-time victory over South Korea in the final on Saturday.

The former Millwall man has also reportedly attracted interest from China, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, and as a free agent does not face the time pressure to sign for anyone in England before the deadline passes at 11pm.

Roberto Martinez would surely be interested in bringing Cahill back. His team ethic and leadership skills could prove invaluable for side lacking direction.
