Raul Meireles is so unimpressed over the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas that he is mulling over whether to leave Chelsea.

The Portuguese midfielder scored the first goal following his fellow countryman’s exit from Stamford Bridge, at Birmingham earlier this month, but displayed his anger over events by refusing to celebrate.

Chelsea are a side reborn since caretaker Roberto Di Matteo took over from Villas-Boas and the squad’s new-found togetherness was on full display during the remarkable comeback to beat Napoli in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But Meireles, 28, is an exception and looks set to leave the club he joined just seven months ago from Liverpool for £11million, according to the Sun.

Following his public show of disaffection at Birmingham, Meireles was substituted after just 37 minutes of Saturday’s 1-0 win over Stoke and looked upset as he left the field.

The former Porto star was not on show against Napoli and, like many other members of the squad, faces an uncertain future as the club seeks to appoint a new boss in time for next season.

Meireles still has three years left on his contract but he should have no shortage of options should he choose to leave following his impressive season at Anfield.
