Chelsea are locked in a titanic battle with Manchester United over contract rebel Paul Pogba.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are still on the trail of the midfield marauder – and had a top spy watching him as he scored the winner for the reserves against Bolton on Tuesday.

However, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is refusing to give up the fight and is trying to keep talks open over a new contract.

Chelsea looked at signing Pogba in the winter window but picked up mixed messages from his camp about whether he was interested in moving or staying at United.

Some of Pogba’s team are looking for a massive payment to secure his signature – with figures of around £3million being bandied about.

Ferguson and United are prepared to give Pogba a raise if he re-signs, but the extra demands are putting them off.

Chelsea may be willing to pay, but Pogba’s negoatiators are also trying to whip up interest for him in Italy, where AC Milan are admirers.
