Manchester United defender Fabio da Silva could be in his way to Portugal.

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering sending the 21 year-old out on loan in order to maximise his first-team opportunities.

And the Brazilian’s agent has told O Jogo that Benfica are winning the race to sign him.

“There is the possibility that Fabio could go to Benfica,” said Cassiano Pereira.

“Alex Ferguson has already talked to me and Fabio about that possibility, and in the next two or three weeks we will make a decision.”

The full-back has found first-team opportunities hard to come by this season and has featured in just five Premier League games.
