The silence from Old Trafford over Shaw is deafening.
United have refused to comment on reports claiming the club have lodged a £27m offer for Shaw.
And like they did with similar stories reporting David Moyes’ sacking last month, the deposed champions’ lack of response could be telling.
Sources close to Shaw insist United have made their move to land 18-year-old, who is also a target for Chelsea.
However, Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger is not worried about Shaw leaving.
“The reason people look at our players is because the club does an excellent job developing them,” he said.
“It should be difficult here every summer.”
United left-back Patrice Evra is poised to follow Nemanja Vidic out of the club this summer, with Inter Milan keen on the Frenchman.
