Liverpool are set to win the £5m battle to borrow Victor Moses. Brendan Rodgers is close to agreeing a season-long loan for the Chelsea winger.

Everton, Southampton, West Brom and German side Schalke were also keen on Moses, 22.

But a move to Anfield is the player’s first choice.

And the Reds are poised to win the race after agreeing to stump up a £2m loan fee.

They are also expected to take on Moses’ £55,000-a-week wages for the year. Moses’ Chelsea future looked bleak following a string of new signings at Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho recalled Kevin De Bruyne from loan. Andre Schurrle and Willian have also been brought in to further increase attacking midfield options.

The new arrivals left Moses facing a real fight for first-team action after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

Nigerian Moses only joined Chelsea last August. He made 43 appearances, scoring 10 goals, but has yet to play a competitive game under Mourinho.

Meanwhile, Anfield boss Rodgers claims Manchester United will show a different attitude tomorrow without Sir Alex Ferguson in the dug-out.

The Kop chief said: “I think it could affect the attitude at United.

“A manager can affect the attitude of his players. Look at the Chelsea game the other night.

“It was drifting towards a nil-nil and there wasn’t really a murmur at Old Trafford.

“You knew at the time Fergie was there he was probably going for the win, so the crowd were near enough expecting a goal at the end of the game.

“Now that is an attitude and a behaviour that he installed over many years because they had success through that.

“Fergie was renowned for always asking about the time in games and using that influence.”
