willian-chelsea1It promises to be a nervy evening of Champions League football in west London as Chelsea play host to Porto in Group G.

The two sides are tied at the top of the group on 10 points, but with Dynamo Kiev just two points adrift in third place, both teams know that defeat at Stamford Bridge could well mean elimination from the competition.

Chelsea come into this match on the back of a disastrous 1-0 defeat against AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening and the Blues will be looking to relieve the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho by attaining a positive result against the Portuguese side.

The home side have already suffered 10 competitive defeats thus far this season, but are chalked up as favourites with bet365 to claim a crucial, morale-boosting victory over Julen Lopetegui’s side on Wednesday night.

Porto, of course, inflicted one of those defeats on Chelsea, winning 2-1 when the two sides met in Portugal earlier in this group and the visitors can be backed at a chunky to heap yet more misery upon the Blues with a victory in this tie.

Draw backers can have that both sides are forced to settle for a share of the spoils at the end of what looks likely to be a pulsating encounter.

Chelsea’s impressive home record in the Champions League should offer comfort to Mourinho’s men ahead of this clash, for the Premier League champions have lost just one of their previous 37 Champions League group stage fixtures on home soil.

Porto, though, will not be lacking in confidence for Lopetegui’s side have not lost any of their last five away fixtures at this stage of the competition.

Indeed, the Portuguese outfit have scored twice in each of their last five Champions League group stage fixtures on the road, while last month’s 2-0 reverse at the hands of Dynamo Kiev marked the first competitive defeat that Porto have suffered this term.

Given Chelsea’s defensive deficiencies, punters may well be tempted to take a chance on the quote from Paddy Power for the visitors to net two or more goals on their visit to Stamford Bridge, while Porto can be backed at a tempting in the double chance market with the same firm.

Mourinho’s men have drawn a blank in each of their last two outings, but the visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their seven previous fixtures against the Blues.

The quote on offer from bet365 for both sides to score is hugely appealing, but better value lies in the juicy quote from the same firm for three or more goals to be scored when these two sides lock horns and it is this selection that is the recommended play for punters ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
