Arsenal will offer influential midfielder Alex Song a bumper pay-rise to commit his long-term future to the club.

And manager Arsene Wenger will look to strengthen his defensive midfield options further with a big-money summer move for Yann M’Vila.

Song, 24, has been in sparkling form in recent months, something that has coincided with Arsenal’s resurgence.

The Cameroon international’s existing deal is worth around £55,000 a week and expires in the summer of 2014. But Wenger has instructed chief executive Ivan Gazidis to begin talks with Song with a view to securing his long-term future before the start of next season.

Song is expected to be offered a five-year deal worth around £75,000 a week — making him one of the club’s highest earners.

France international M’Vila has emerged as the club’s first-choice target for a holding midfielder.

Rennes are resigned to losing the  21-year-old and will consider offers in excess of £17million.

Arsenal are also expected to announce the signing of Germany striker Lukas Podolski this week.
