Arsenal are plotting an audacious January swoop for out-of-favour Manchester United winger Nani, according to the Daily Mail.

The Portugal international has not started a league game since November following a bust up with Alex Ferguson over his refusal to sign a contract extension – his current deal expires in 2014.

The 26-year-old came close top joining Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in January before his wage demands scuppered the move.

Speculation of his imminent departure grew after he was omitted from the club’s 2013 calendar.

United are not completely resigned to losing the exciting forward, although Nani concedes his relationship with the manager has deteriorated beyond repair. The winger also received criticism for a row with promising young midfielder Davide Petrucci earlier this season.
