dimitar-berbatov-manchester-unitedPremier League new boys Bournemouth are free to open talks with Dimitar Berbatov after AS Monaco confirmed the striker will leave this month.

The former Manchester United and Tottenham star will not be kept on by the French side when his contract expires in the next few weeks.

Berbatov netted nine goals in 37 games in all competitions for Monaco last term.

Monaco’s Deputy CEO Vadim Vasilyev said: “During those eighteen months at the club, Dimitar Berbatov showed his talent but also great professionalism.

“We are proud of what he brought to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”

The 34-year-old forward has been linked with a surprise move to The Cherries this summer as they look to add experience and goals to their squad.

Eddie Howe’s men earned promotion to the Premier League for the first time in their history after topping the Championship.

They will need to add know-how and quality to their squad or risk being blown away in the top division.

And, Howe is eyeing Berbatov and could make a move now.

Meanwhile, Maarten Stekelenburg will return to Fulham after Monaco confirmed they will not take up the option to sign the goalkeeper.
