Carlos Tevez could make his Manchester City comeback against Chelsea next week.

The striker has played two reserve games – scoring against Bolton – as he works his way back to full fitness having been out of action since September.

Thursday’s Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon is too soon for the 28-year-old but City’s next game is at home to Chelsea on Wednesday, March 21.

Manager Roberto Mancini, after watching his side draw a blank in Sunday’s defeat to Swansea, said: ‘Carlos needs to train again, maybe another 10 days.

‘I don’t think that Carlos can play the first game and be 100 per cent after five months. This is impossible.

‘I think he could help us in the last two months.’

Tevez only returned to training in February after spending several months back home in Argentina.

He went to South America without permission after falling out with Mancini for refusing to come off the bench during a Champions League match at Bayern Munich in September.
