Chelsea have announced another arrival after a busy couple of weeks in the transfer market, completing the signing of Mexican youngster Ulises Davila.

The former Chivas attacking midfielder arrives on a five-year deal having spent the summer impressing for his country in the Under-20 World Cup.

The 20-year-old emerged from the same Chivas academy that produced a host of Premier League stars, including Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Arsenal forward Carlos Vela and Fulham’s Carlos Salcido.

He follows Valencia star Juan Mata, young Belgian attacker Romelu Lukaku, and Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo told the club’s official website: “Ulises has been a highly-scouted player by a lot of clubs, and has made great progress in the last couple of tournaments we have seen him play in.

“We are delighted to have been able to get this deal done, Chivas is a superb club with a strong reputation in player development and world football, and we are confident Ulises will be able to continue his fast development to become an important Chelsea first-team player.”

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay added: “We have been very impressed with the Chivas organisation and we will look for other ways to work with them in the future.”

A beaming Chivas president Jorge Vergara claimed the signing was a proud moment for his club.

“Once more, Chivas makes history as a team that really pushes and prepares its players in an integral fashion,” he added at a press conference.

“For all of us here at Chivas it is a matter of great pride that players formed in our ranks attract the attention and get to play for the best teams in Europe, where the most competitive football is played.

“This is a fruit of our philosophy, both football-related and humanistic, that allows us to form players with a winning mentality and exploit their maximum potential.”
