Manchester City are ready to hit Carlos Tevez with a whopping fine of £1.5m – as well as suspending him for six weeks.

The club have called in leading employment lawyers as the investigation into the bust-up between their former captain and manager Roberto Mancini on Tuesday gets into full swing.

City’s hierarchy will leave no stone unturned in their bid to punish Tevez, who they believe is guilty of gross misconduct.

They will now seek to extend his initial sentence by a month and fine the striker a further four weeks’ wages. If the club get their way, Tevez will not return until November – leaving around six or seven weeks before he can be sold in January.

The £250,000-a-week star will give his account of events to the investigation panel, which is being led by acting chief executive John MacBeath, early this week.

Furious Mancini told Tevez he would never play for City again after claiming the Argentinian refused to go on against Bayern Munich with his side 2-0 down in their Champions League group game.

But Tevez refutes the allegation and will tell the panel that, while he refused his manager’s request to further warm-up, at no point did he say he would not play.

City immediately hit Tevez with a two-week fine and ban, the maximum allowed under players union guidelines. But after consulting lawyers they will now try to penalise Tevez with much harder sanctions.
