David Beckham has revealed he wants to make a dream return to Manchester United in a sporting director role.

The former England captain started his career at Old Trafford at the age of 14, spending 10 professional years playing for manager Sir Alex Ferguson before leaving for Real Madrid in 2003.

Paris St Germain, Tottenham and QPR are leading the chase to sign the 36-year-old, whose contract at American outfit Los Angeles Galaxy is nearing an end.

But Beckham, who played 399 times for Manchester United winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League during United’s memorable treble year in 1999, has his heart set on an emotional homecoming.

Pointing to former Madrid team-mate Zinedine Zidane’s current sporting director position at the Bernabeu, Beckham told The Sun: ‘I’d love to do that.

‘The best memory of my career came in 1999, no doubt, when Manchester United won the treble.

‘In my opinion, no club can repeat that feat.’

When Beckham left Old Trafford for Spain eight years ago he inistsed he would never play for another Barclays Premier League club other than his boyhood team United.

He spent last winter training for Harry Redknapp’s Spurs in a bid to maintain his fitness during the MLS off-season but a loan deal failed to materialise.

Redknapp admitted recently that he would love to invited Beckham back but he faces competition from French giants Paris St Germain and QPR who are both keen to recruit the veteran midfielder in the New Year.
