Chelsea defender David Luiz is trying to persuade Brazil team-mate Neymar to join him at Stamford Bridge.

The flamboyant Santos striker has been on Chelsea’s radar for years and, although he is a target for many of the world’s richest clubs, Luiz admits he has been working on his compatriot as the pair prepare for tonight’s friendly against Ghana at Fulham’s Craven Cottage.

Blues’ assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo watched Neymar play for Brazil in Germany last month and the club will be buoyed by the knowledge that the 19-year-old is enjoying his time in the capital this week.

Luiz said: “I would definitely like Neymar in my team but it is up to him to decide where he wants to play. But I hope he signs for Chelsea.

“Neymar’s getting to know London and he likes it very much. I love it here, too. It’s one of the best cities in the world – all I miss is the beach.”

The striker, who has six goals in 10 games for Brazil and 31 goals for Santos in 73 appearances, was linked with a move to Barcelona this weekend but would also be a target for Real Madrid, Manchester City and Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
