David Moyes has denied any rift with Robin van Persie and described the Manchester United striker as “fantastic to work with”.

Rumours have surfaced in Holland that Van Persie is unhappy with Moyes’ training methods as well as the summer departure of fellow-Dutchman Rene Meulensteen, who was first-team coach under Sir Alex Ferguson and with whom he enjoyed a close relationship.Moyes and Van Persie were pictured apparently in heated conversation on the training pitch ahead of United’s Champions League game against Real Sociedad, when Van Persie was left out with injuries to two toes and a groin strain.

But ahead of the home clash with Stoke today, Moyes dismissed talk of any problems. “That’s complete nonsense,” he said. “I don’t really need to answer it because it is rubbish.“He has been great and I’ve found him fantastic to work with.

“He has had a couple of sore toes. He was playing with injections in one of them and then got the other one stood on when we played Shakhtar.

“His toes have been bothering him for a long time and he felt it was affecting his groin as well, so we took the chance of trying to get him a little bit of recovery.”

“He has a good chance [of facing Stoke]. He has done a bit of training so hopefully should be fit.”

A concern for Moyes is that England striker Danny Welbeck is missing for the second time this season with fluid on his knee.
