Fraser-HornbyEverton have wrapped up a deal for 15-year-old Northampton midfielder Fraser Hornby.

Hornby has been on trial at a host of Premier League and Championship clubs over the summer so the deal is quite the coup for Roberto Martinez’s club.

The Toffees have forked out a downpayment of £65,500 for the teenager, who is the younger brother of Northampton first team player Lewis, but the fee could rise to £1.3m under the terms of the Elite Player Performance Plan.

Everton will give the League Two side £150,000 for every 10 Premier League games Hornby appears in.

After his 60th game, the Goodison Park club will pay £100,000 for every 10 appearances until his 100th top flight game.

The new system was introduced to replace the old tribunal system allowing teams to buy youngsters from lower league outfits.

Northampton youth academy coach Trevor Gould expressed his frustration with the new system.

He said: “We always want to keep our best players, but under the EPPP if a player is wanted by a Premier League club then it is just about impossible for us to resist, given the processes set out as part of the EPPP.”

However, Gould admitted that the 15-year-old’s move to Merseyside highlights the good work being done at Northampton.

He added: “Not only are we producing players for our own first team, we are producing players who are attracting the interest of Premier League clubs and that is a massive endorsement of our work.

“Seeing any local player have the opportunity to develop at a Premier League club is exciting and we wish Fraser every success.”
