Aston Villa will be without midfielder Fabian Delph for Sunday’s Barclays Premier League home clash with Manchester United.

Delph is suspended having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 2-0 defeat at Fulham last weekend.

In terms of injuries, Villa boss Paul Lambert has reported that centre-back Ron Vlaar is “struggling” with his calf problem, but indicated that full-back Antonio Luna and striker Libor Kozak, recently sidelined by groin and toe complaints respectively, may be available on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been ruled out for a month with a thigh injury.

United boss David Moyes confirmed the Holland international had suffered the injury when he took the corner that led to Phil Jones’ match-winner in the Champions League triumph over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

Successive defeats against Everton and Newcastle have erased what was left of Manchester United’s margin for error in terms of their title hopes and David Moyes’s team now face a battle simply to secure a top four finish.

Villa Park has been a happy hunting ground for United, who are unbeaten at the stadium since August 1995, but with Everton and Newcastle ended lengthy winless runs at Old Trafford this month, nothing is certain any more with the champions.

Stat of the game: The 22 points United have won from 15 games is their lowest return at this stage of the season for 12 years.

Villa (Possible, 4-3-3): Guzan; Bacuna, Herd, Clark, Baker; El AHmadi, Westwood, Delph; Weimann, Benteke, Agbonlahor..
Out: Delph (suspended), Bennett (back), N’Zogbia (Achilles).
Tests: Vlaar (calf), Kozak, Luna (both unspecified).

Manchester United (Possible, 4-2-3-1): De Gea; Rafael, Vidicm Evans, EVra; Jones, Giggs; Valencia, Welbeck, Januzaj; Rooney.
Out: Van Persie (thigh), Carrick (Achilles), Fletcher (match fitness), Fellaini (back).
