Midfielder Adlene Guedioura will be missing from Crystal Palace’s clash with Everton after being ruled out for at least six weeks

The Algeria international collided with West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill last weekend, fracturing two ribs and suffering a partly collapsed lung.

Midfielder Jonny Williams (ankle) is back in full training after recovering more quickly than expected from a knee injury, while defender Paddy McCarthy is edging closer to a first-team return.

Palace striker Glenn Murray and defender Jack Hunt remain long-term absentees.

Meanwhile, a knee operation has ruled out Everton striker Arouna Koné for much of the rest of the season, but manager Roberto Martïnez has no new injury concerns.

Midfielder Darron Gibson is making good progress from his own cruciate ligament surgery.

Centre-back Antolín Alcaraz is nearing inclusion in the first-team squad for the first time after a slow recovery from hernia and hamstring problems.

Like an asteroid hurtling towards Earth, Palace’s relegation is a long way off, and yet nobody seems quite sure how to prevent it.

Still managerless, rudderless and largely clueless, Palace will again start as second favourites against Everton, whose manager Roberto Martínez believes are yet to realise their full potential.

He may be right, but only if they curb their occasional habit of only turning up for 45 minutes.
