Strikers Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long will both be pushing for recalls as Hull prepare to face Premier League title-chasers Manchester City at the KC Stadium on Saturday.

Jelavic and Long were both cup-tied for the Tigers’ FA Cup quarter-final win over Sunderland last week, in which Matty Fryatt and Soné Aluko led the line.

Manager Steve Bruce has no new injury concerns as his side go in search of the first of the two victories he believes will seal their place in the top-flight for at least another season.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are without top scorer Sergio Agüero.

The Argentine was withdrawn at half-time during the Champions League loss at Barcelona in midweek with another hamstring problem.

Fellow striker Stevan Jovetic (hamstring) and defender Matija Nastasic (knee) are also still sidelined, while right-back Micah Richards has suffered a knock.

Away form is the biggest threat to Manchester City’s title challenge.

If the Premier League table was based on results on the road, Manuel Pellegrini’s side would be eighth and the more nervous City fans will be aware that, after this trip, their team’s next three away games are at Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

So, having seen two trophy chances disappear in four days this week, the importance to them of taking three points at the KC Stadium should not be underestimated.

Hull have won only one of their last seven games at home in the Premier League, the latest a 4-1 thumping by Newcastle that will stay in the memory for other reasons.

On the other hand, City have not won on Humberside in seven attempts in the league since 1909.

Stat of the game: Manchester City last won at Hull 105 years ago, in 1909. Since then they have lost four and drawn three of seven visits.
