Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has a decision to make over whether to include midfielder Joe Allen for the 222nd Merseyside derby at home to Everton.

The Wales international missed the weekend’s FA Cup win at Bournemouth with a hamstring injury and although he trained Monday Rodgers is concerned playing him may do more harm than good.

Defender Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) is still two to three weeks away from fitness while Jon Flanagan is set to start after making his comeback as a substitute at the weekend after a month out.

Meanwhile, Everton manager Roberto Martínez will make a late call on whether to include loan signing Lacina Traoré.

The Ivory Coast international only trained with his new team-mates on Monday and has had a hamstring injury.

Doubts also persist over defensive quartet Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin, Antolin Alcaraz and Seamus Coleman as well as midfielders Ross Barkley and Steven Pienaar.

Luis Suárez has scored in three of his four Premier League Merseyside derby appearances and will fancy his chances of adding to his 22 goals, including one in the 3-3 Goodison Park draw in November.

Both teams agree there is more at stake than just pride; the hope of finishing in the top-four could be propelled by a win at Anfield, and given Everton’s poor return there in recent seasons, Liverpool will start as favourites.

Stat of the game: Everton have won none of their last 13 Premier League visits to Anfield, drawing seven and losing six in that run.
