Glen Johnson returns to the Liverpool squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Swansea at Anfield.

The right-back has been out for more than a month with ankle and groin problems, while fellow defender Mamadou Sakho could return next week from a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Lucas Leiva is also recovering well from a knee problem but full-back Jose Enrique has gone to the United States to see a specialist about his own knee trouble.

Swansea appear to have emerged injury-free from their Europa League encounter against Napoli as they prepare to face Liverpool.

Former Anfield midfielder Jonjo Shelvey showed no ill-effects from his recent hamstring strain after featuring as a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw, but a return for star striker Michu appears unlikely.

It had been hoped the Spaniard could play some part in the Napoli clash, but he was still suffering from soreness and not considered.

Swansea’s Garry Monk must feel he is on a UK tour of his mentors.

First it was former manager Roberto Martínez at Goodison Park last weekend, and now he meets up with another ex-Swansea coach, Brendan Rodgers, the apprentice hoping to dent the tutor’s fanciful title hopes.

Liverpool privately believe they can win the title but, publicly, are having none of it.

This represents the first of 12 must win games, but the nervous on The Kop are as keen to keep Spurs at bay as close the gap on the leaders.

Stat of the game: Swansea have 33 goals, exactly half of Liverpool 66-goal haul.
