Full-back Erik Pieters is Stoke’s main doubt against Chelsea.

The Holland international was forced off at half-time of Wednesday’s draw against Cardiff with a groin strain and a late decision will be made on his availability.

Striker Jonathan Walters has recovered from the dead leg that brought to an end his run of 102 consecutive Premier League starts but defender Robert Huth (knee) and winger Matthew Etherington (back) are out.

Chelsea defender David Luiz will miss Saturday’s Barclays Premier League clash with Stoke City with a knee injury and manager Jose Mourinho insists a date for Luiz’s return has yet to be set.

A late decision will be made on midfielder Oscar, who has recovered from an ankle problem, while striker Samuel Eto’o is back from a groin problem.

Jose Mourinho was just beginning to establish his reputation as a coach at Porto the last time Stoke City defeated Chelsea.

That was in 1995 in the League Cup and another victory at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday will enhance the suspicion that Mourinho’s second coming is starting to find its stride.

Mark Hughes has only recorded one Premier League win since August and a bleak winter appears ominous unless he can start finding some victories.

Stat of the game: Stoke’s league record against the Blues is poor; they have never beaten them in the Premier League, in 10 attempts, and were last successful against the Londoners back in April 1975.
