Tottenham will be without captain Michael Dawson for the north London derby with Arsenal, while Kyle Walker is a major doubt.

A hamstring injury suffered in last weekend’s 4-0 defeat at Chelsea will keep centre-back Dawson out of Sunday’s match, while a pelvic complaint may well sideline right-back Walker.

Danny Rose could return to the starting line-up having featured from the bench in Thursday’s Europa League loss to Benfica, while Tim Sherwood will be hoping Mousa Dembélé is also in contention.

Étienne Capoue, Erik Lamela and Vlad Chiriches all remain sidelined.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will be without midfielder Mesut Özil for at least three weeks because of a hamstring tear as the Gunners prepare for Sunday’s north London derby at Tottenham.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will return from a midweek European suspension while full-back Nacho Monreal and striker Yaya Sanogo have recovered from foot injuries

Midfielder Kim Kallstrom could be in the squad for the first time.

However, defender Kieran Gibbs remains a doubt, midfielder Aaron Ramsey is still a couple of weeks away from full fitness, while Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby remain out.

Tim Sherwood’s decision to so publicly criticise his players after the defeat at Chelsea seemed to prompt little reaction on Thursday but a north London derby, especially at home, will represent the ultimate test of the squad’s character.

Defeat and the gap to fourth place will surely be insurmountable.

After leaving the Champions League in midweek, Arsenal do still have the FA Cup to fall back on but their hopes of staying in the Premier League title race are likely to hinge on the next 15 days.

Injuries are again coming at the worst possible moment, although the slight advantage of two extra days rest from European competition may prove decisive.
