Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela will miss Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Manchester City at White Hart Lane.

Head coach Tim Sherwood said neither midfielder is ready to return, but he admitted he expects England star Townsend to be a week away from full fitness after hamstring trouble.

Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul and Sandro are back in training but remain doubts.

Meanwhile, Manchester City striker Álvaro Negredo (shoulder) is back in contention.

Playmaker David Silva is also available after being rested last weekend as a precaution because of a minor hamstring issue.

Midfielders James Milner (groin) and Javi Garcia are ruled out but not expected to be sidelined long, while Samir Nasri (knee) remains a long-term casualty.

When these teams met at City in November, the home side won 6-0 and manager Andre Villas-Boas lasted just another four league games.

Little has changed with City; they just keep scoring.

But Spurs have improved; they are unbeaten in all six league games under new head coach Tim Sherwood, winning five, and will believe they have the power to test City’s title credentials, particularly if City old boy Emmanuel Adebayor is in the mood.

Stat of the game: Tottenham have won seven and lost just one of their last 10 Premier League home games against Man City.
