Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will start Sunday’s Premier League fixture at home to Newcastle.

The France captain played on in the 0-0 draw at Everton despite being knocked unconscious and Villa-Boas will recall his number one after resting him for Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League win over Sheriff.

A number of other players can expect recalls but Danny Rose (toe), Sandro (hamstring), Zeki Fryers (groin) and Emmanuel Adebayor (foot) are all likely to miss out.

Meanwhile, Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini could return to the starting line-up at Tottenham on Sunday.

The central defender has missed the last four games with a groin injury, and his absence has coincided with that of Steven Taylor, who is not expected back from his hamstring problem until after the break for international matches.

However, midfielder Cheick Tiote, who limped of against Chelsea last weekend with a muscle strain, is expected to resume at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham remain well placed in the Premier League despite lacking the flair of recent seasons but should see this is a big opportunity to establish some momentum, especially with Arsenal facing Manchester United at Old Trafford later in the day.

Newcastle are nothing if not unpredictable and will be hoping to produce a performance more akin to last week’s win over Chelsea than their defeat to Sunderland six days earlier.

Stat of the game: Spurs have yet to concede a goal to a club from outside the capital in the Premier League this season.
