Razvan Rat is doubtful with a hamstring injury sustained on international duty with Romania for when West Ham host Chelsea on Saturday.

Rat’s fellow defenders Joey O’Brien and James Collins are expected to be fit despite withdrawing from duty with the Republic of Ireland and Wales through injury.

Winston Reid could be fit and George McCartney is back in training, but Andy Carroll, Mladen Petric, Matthew Taylor and Alou Diarra are absent.

Meanwhile, left-back Ashley Cole is in the Chelsea squad despite being substituted while on England duty with a recurrence of a rib injury.

Striker Fernando Torres is back in training following an adductor injury sustained in training at the start of the month, but is not yet ready to return.

Midfielder Marco van Ginkel, who is out long-term with a knee injury, is the only absentee.

West Ham will be in the relegation zone by the time they kick off, if Stoke and Fulham avoid home defeats.

Their only league win at Upton Park was on the opening day, with three defeats and a goalless draw since, but they beat Chelsea in this fixture a year ago.

Chelsea have won only one away game in the league, losing two and drawing twice, and have one point from the past two games. Another shock here?
