Gareth Bale can make it a hat-trick of awards this year if he picks up the UEFA Best Player in Europe accolade.
Tottenham’s Welsh star won the PFA Player of the Year AND the PFA Young Player of the Year awards back in April.
Alongside Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, Bale is the only representation of English teams in the shortlist.
Unsurprisingly, given that Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich reached the Champions League final, half the list is comprised of Bundesliga players.
Four come from cup-winners Bayern (Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger) and one from Dortmund (Robert Lewandowski).
Obviously Barcelona and Real Madrid megastars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo feature, with PSG’s moody-but-talented Swede Zlatan Ibrahimovic also shortlisted.
The Shortlist:
Gareth Bale (WAL) – Tottenham Hotspur FC
Cristiano Ronaldo (POR) – Real Madrid CF
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (SWE) – Paris Saint-Germain FC
Robert Lewandowski (POL) – Borussia Dortmund
Lionel Messi (ARG) – FC Barcelona
Thomas Muller (GER) – FC Bayern München
Franck Ribery (FRA) – FC Bayern Munchen
Arjen Robben (NED) – FC Bayern Munchen
Bastian Schweinsteiger (GER) – FC Bayern Munchen
Robin van Persie (NED) – Manchester United FC
