Newcastle have rejected a £30 million bid from Liverpool for striker Andy Carroll.

Newcastle have spent much of the transfer window insisting the 22 year-old is not for sale amid Tottenham’s concerted pursuit, and now it remains to be seen if their resolve to hang on to their 11-goal hitman can be broken during the remaining hours of the transfer window.

Manager Alan Pardew was due to hold his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Fulham at the club’s training headquarters at 2pm this afternoon.

However, that has now been put back to 3.30pm and will take place at St James’ Park.

England international Carroll is said to fit that bill but they could face competition from Tottenham with the north Londoners also keen to bolster their strikeforce after sending Robbie Keane out of loan to West Ham.
