Louis van Gaal is set to be confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager following their final home game of the season next Tuesday.

Holland coach van Gaal, 62, and the Netherlands FA do not want speculation over his future to disrupt their World Cup preparations which start next Wednesday with a 10-day training camp. And United are believed to have agreed to officially confirm his appointment once their clash with FA Cup finalists Hull at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening is over.

Van Gaal, who has been favourite for the United job from the moment David Moyes was dismissed last week, will take over in July once the World Cup is over – and is likely to bring his own coaching team with him, including Patrick Kluivert, his assistant with the Dutch national team. But he will almost certainly ask United’s longest-serving player and interim manager Ryan Giggs to become one of his coaches.
