Everton midfielders Jack Rodwell and Royston Drenthe could return for the hosts.

Rodwell (hamstring) and Drenthe, who has been on extended compassionate leave since March 21, missed out on Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Norwich but could be available for the Easter Monday clash at Goodison Park.

Seamus Coleman (thigh) came on as a substitute against the Canaries and could start against the Black Cats while Leon Osman may also be handed a start after being left out of the matchday squad for the trip to Norfolk.

Sunderland manager Martin O’Neill will give late tests to a trio of players ahead of his side’s trip west.

Captain Lee Cattermole limped off towards the end of Saturday’s goalless draw with Tottenham and Phil Bardsley was also substituted with a knock.

Nicklas Bendtner is a doubt with a back injury and among those pushing for a return to the starting line-up are Kieran Richardson and Wayne Bridge.
