Newcastle were checking on the fitness of midfield duo Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote.

Neither finished Friday’s win at Swansea, with Tiote forced off before half-time and Cabaye withdrawn late on.

Midfielder Danny Guthrie failed to recover from a hamstring injury, while Fabricio Coloccini (hamstring), Steven Taylor (Achilles), Peter Lovenkrands (thigh), Leon Best, Sammy Ameobi (both knee) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin) remain sidelined.

Bolton defender Marcos Alonso (calf) will be assessed ahead of Monday’s trip.

Full-back Gretar Steinsson (knee) could be in line to return after being among the substitutes for Saturday’s loss to Fulham.

Winger Gregg Wylde is still awaiting clearance while defender Tyrone Mears (knee), midfielder Stuart Holden (knee) and winger Lee Chung-yong (leg) remain sidelined.
